Singer Auditions in Los Angeles: What I Look for in an Artist
If you're a singer or singer-actor considering auditioning for an Artist Development Program, you may wonder: What exactly is the person on the other side of the table looking for?
After more than 30 years of working with developing and professional artists, I can tell you this:
I am not necessarily looking for the most technically perfect singer in the room.
I am looking for potential. To be considered for an audition, contact Valerie Fahren GO To the CONTACT PAGE AND SEND AN EMAIL TODAY

What I Look for in an Audition
When an artist auditions for me, I'm listening to the voice — but I'm also looking beyond it.
I look for individuality. Is there something distinctive about this artist?
I look for musicality and performance ability. Does the artist communicate something when they sing?
I look for stage presence and personality. Is there something that makes me want to keep watching?
I look for potential. Can I hear and see where this artist could go with the right development?
And importantly, I look for work ethic and coachability. Talent is important, but an artist also needs to be willing to learn, work consistently and grow.
You Don't Have to Be "Ready" to Audition
One of the biggest misconceptions singers can have is believing they need to be completely ready before auditioning.
You don't.
That's what development is for.
I have worked with singers, actors and singer-songwriters at many different stages of their careers. Some needed significant vocal development. Others already had strong voices but needed help developing their artistry, performance skills, confidence or professional presentation.
The question isn't simply:
"How good are you today?"
I'm also asking:
"What could you become?"
Talent Is Only Part of an Artist's Career
Having a great voice is wonderful, but building a professional career requires much more than simply singing well.
An artist needs to understand who they are.
They need confidence.
They need professionalism.
They need to know how to walk into an audition, meeting or performance opportunity and present themselves as an artist.
They need to be prepared when opportunities arrive.
This is why my work has always gone beyond traditional voice lessons.
My Artist Development Program is designed to help singers and actors develop the skills, artistry and professional preparation they need to move to the next level.
Auditions Are Now Being Held in Los Angeles
I am currently auditioning a select number of singers and singer-actors for my 30th Anniversary Industry Showcase and Artist Development Program.
Selected artists will work with me through the Artist Development Program and prepare for the opportunity to perform in front of a panel of entertainment industry professionals, including agents, managers and music industry executives.
I am only looking for a few additional artists for this year's program and showcase.
If you're serious about developing your talent and pursuing your career professionally, I would love to hear what you can do.
